About Gayle
Gayle is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has a private practice located in Rochester, New York. She is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She studied within the Department of Psychiatry, where she was trained in the medical model of individual psychotherapy with a family systems approach. She provided therapy at Strong Family Therapy Services, and briefly at Women’s Behavioral Health, both located at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She became interested in therapy for individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and in couple relationship issues associated with this diagnosis. She completed intensive training in dialectical behavioral therapy through University of Washington’s Dr. Linda Dimiff (collaborative team member with Dr. Marsha Linehan).
Prior to private practice, Gayle was the clinical coordinator of the PATHS (Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies) program at the University of Rochester’s Mount Hope Family Center, internationally known center for research, training, and service for families. She worked primarily with low income families who may have experienced or witnessed domestic violence, sexual abuse, community violence and other struggles related to living at the poverty level.
She currently works with clients who are experiencing mental health issues, including relational problems secondary to mental health issues. She conducts pre-marital and marital/partner marital counseling (group and individual) which includes evidence-based assessments, with a focus on strengths and identifiable areas for personal and relational growth. Along with her private practice work, she is a coalition member of Vetskids through Veteran’s Outreach Center of Rochester, New York, where her focus is directed towards the unique issues facing military families. Such issues may include PTSD and secondary PTSD, emotional and structual transition to and from deployment, grief/loss, and support when a spouse/partner struggles with a mental health diagnosis.
